The apron serves as a layer that can be placed on and off the body. Like many insects that shed their exoskeletons periodically, these transparent lace aprons are meant to capture the different facets and stages of transformation in femininity.

This series of aprons reflects the many facets of transformation experienced from girlhood to womanhood. The works simultaneously honor the matrilineal history of textile labor within my family, positioning domestic craft as a site of memory, inheritance, and becoming.

Inspired by photography of my mother and her sister in Venezuela wearing diffferent crochet pieces by my grandmother. On the right is a photo of my grandmother laying on the bed covers she made
